The City of Hartford Department of Development Services (DDS) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from February 19, 2021, until February 25, 2021. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

There were five ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. Complete the online application.
  2. Print the paper application online.
  3. Pick up an application in the February 19, 2021 edition of the Hartford Courant newspaper.
  4. Pick up an application at multiple area newspapers, Hartford libraries, or community service agencies.
  5. Pick up an application at one of two listed locations.

Once the paper application was completed, it must have been postmarked between February 19, 2021 and February 25, 2021, and mailed to DDS.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Previously homeless household
  • Went through redevelopment displacement
  • Elderly family or disabled/handicapped family

4,000 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences.
