The Hawaii Public Housing Authority (HPHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. Applications were last accepted on a limited basis from October 29, 2020, until November 2, 2020. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: According to HPHA, "To qualify, an applicant must:

  • Be housed under a current, valid lease agreement
  • Have a landlord who has agreed to participate in the HCV program, including meeting all HCV criteria for unit inspection, providing valid tax identification information, and complying with program requirements."

To apply during the opening time, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences: 

  • Lease in Place.

3,000 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences.

The Hawaii Public Housing Authority - Section 8 Office (HPHA) Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list for apartments at Palolo Valley Homes and Kuhio Park Terrace is closed.

The HPHA last accepted applications for this waiting list from July 11, 2022, until July 15, 2022. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

  • Palolo Valley Homes Project-Based (Bedroom sizes: 2, 3, 4, and 5)
  • Kuhio Park Terrace Project-Based (Bedroom sizes: 3)

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Homeless,
  • VAWA (1), includes individuals who experienced actual or threatened physical violence directed against the applicant or the applicant’s family by a spouse or other household member who lives in the unit with the family must have occurred within the past 12 months or be of a continuing nature. The family must have been displaced as a result of fleeing violence in the home or they are currently living in a situation where they are being subjected to or victimized by violence in the home.
  • Involuntarily displaced, include families involuntarily displaced if they are required to vacate housing as a result of: 1) A disaster (fire, flood, earthquake, etc.) that has caused the unit to be uninhabitable; 2) Government action related to code enforcement, public improvement or development; or 3) Action by a housing owner which is beyond an applicant’s ability to control, such as the sale of a property.

It was not known how applicants will be placed on the waiting list.

The Hawaii Public Housing Authority (HPHA) Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from March 22, 2021 until March 26, 2021. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Please note: The HPHA states "To qualify, an applicant must have a member of the household who: 1. Has a disability; AND 2. The disabled individual must be at least eighteen (18) years of age but not yet sixty-two (62)."
