The Westland Housing Commission (WHC) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. It was last open for four days in August, 2019. Before that, it was open for two days in August, 2017; and for three days in November, 2015. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Westland, MI is located about 20 miles west of Detroit, MI.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Live, working, or have been hired to work in Westland Michigan
  • All families with a head of household, cohead, or spouse that is an elderly or disabled person

1,000 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences.

According to the WHC, "Applicants can return to this website to check whether they were placed on the waiting list by clicking the “Search Existing Record” button. Do not call the WHC or City of Westland office to check whether you were placed on the waiting list."

  • 2 Persons $35,800 | 6 Persons $51,950
  • 3 Persons $40,300 | 7 Person $55,500
  • 4 Persons $44,750 | 8 Persons $59,100

This waiting list had the the following preferences: 

  • Elderly
  • Disabled persons 
  • Live or work in the City of Westland

1,000 selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.

Open Until Further Notice: Assisted Living Section 8 Project-Based Voucher Waiting List

The Westland Housing Commission(PHA) Assisted Living Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list for apartments at the communities listed below is currently open. Applications are being accepted since at least October 2020, until further notice.

  • Westland Assisted Living Communities:
    • American House, 1660 Venoy Rd., Westland  
    • American House, 39201 Joy Rd., Westland
    • American House, 35700 Hunter Rd., Westland
    • Marquette House, 36000 Campus Dr., Westland
    • Village of Westland, 32001 Cherry Hill Rd., Westland

Please note: According to the WHA website "The Assisted Living Housing Choice Voucher Program provides HCV Program voucher to eligible applicants, age 50 and over, who require the advantages of assisted living. "

There are two ways to apply during the opening period:

The Westland Housing Commission (PHA) Veterans Supportive Housing Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list for apartments at the communities listed below is currently open. Applications are being accepted since at least October 2020, until further notice.

This waiting list is for the following communities;

  • Veteran’s Haven (1 bedroom apartments)
  • Safe Step (2 and 3 bedroom houses and duplex)
