Section 8 Waiting List Status: Open Indefinitely

Affordable Housing Online is tracking the status of the Red Wing Housing and Redevelopment Authority Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List. This is what we know as of our most recent update on August 31st, 2016.

The Red Wing Housing and Redevelopment Authority (RWHRA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently open on a limited basis. This waiting list opened on April 11, 2016, and is open indefinitely. It was last open in October 2014.

Please note: According to the RWHRA, the office "is now accepting applications for the Section 8 program only for families eligible for the Red Wing HRA residency preference. Families wishing to apply for the Section 8 program are required to complete the online application and submit proof of residency. The housing office will request documentation of the residency preference at the time application is received. Application from non-Red Wing residents will not be accepted."

Important note: Applicants who have been placed on the waiting list must inform the housing authority immediately if your application information changes (such as contact information, income, and household members). In the case that the office sends a notice that does not get returned, or if application information is out of date, your name may be terminated from the waiting list. Contact the housing authority to find out how to update application information.

Public Housing Waiting List Status : Open

Affordable Housing Online is tracking the status of the Red Wing Housing and Redevelopment Authority Public Housing Waiting Lists. This is what we know as of our most recent update August 28th, 2015.

The Red Wing Housing and Redevelopment Authority (RWHRA) is currently accepting Public Housing waiting list pre-applications for families and senior/disabled households.

The RWHRA offers one Public Housing community with 119 units for families and senior/disabled individuals, ranging in size from 1 to 4 bedrooms.

There are three ways to apply

  1. Visit the RWHRA to pick up a pre-application, located at 428 West Fifth Street, Red Wing, MN 55066 during normal office hours.
  2. Request to have a pre-application mailed to you by calling 651-388-7571 during normal office hours.
  3. Download the pre-application online here, then print and complete.
Once the pre-application has been completed, it can be mailed or hand delivered to the address listed above.

Be sure to include these documents with the pre-application: Copy of Birth Certificates and Social security cards.

The RWHRA does have a preference for: Elderly, disabled, or applicants that live and/or work in Red Wing.

The Red Wing Housing and Redevelopment Authority administers both a public housing and Section 8 housing voucher program. The housing authority owns and manages 1 projects which contain 119 affordable rental units. It also administers 169 Section 8 housing vouchers.

This score is a reflection of how well the housing authority manages the Section 8 waiting list, the physical quality of housing assisted with Section 8 and the financial management of the program.

From 2001 to 2009, Red Wing Housing and Redevelopment Authority scored an average of 90 points as of the last set of publicly available data. The housing authority had a high score of 93 in 2005 and a low score of 81 in 2001. The average SEMAP Score for Housing Authorities in Minnesota is 82.05.

Housing Authority Annual and 5 Year Plans

Public housing agencies, also called public housing authorities, which receive funding from HUD, are required to submit and receive approval from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development of both an Annual Plan and a 5 Year Plan. These plans establish each housing authority’s policies, strategies, programs and operations for meeting the housing needs of persons within their target area.

The housing authority plans include specific details about the cost of renovations to real estate (also known as capital improvements), changes to Section 8 HCV policies, planned redevelopment of public housing projects and other major administrative changes.
