The Housing Authority of the City of Jefferson (HACJ) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently open. It opened in October 2012, and is open indefinitely. 

To apply, visit the HACJ office, located at 1040 Myrtle Avenue, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102, during normal office hours. Mailed or faxed applications will not be accepted. 

According to the HACJ, the wait time for a voucher is about four years.

The Housing Authority of the City of Jefferson (HACJ) is currently accepting Public Housing waiting list pre-applications for families and senior/disabled households.The HACJ offers four Public Housing communities with 317 units for families and senior/disabled households, ranging in size from studios to 4 bedrooms.There are two ways to apply:

  1. Visit the HACJ to pick up a pre-application, located at 1040 Myrtle Avenue, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102, during normal office hours.
  2. Download a pre-application online here, then print and complete.
Once the pre-application has been completed, it must be hand delivered to the address listed above during normal office hours.These documents will be needed when you are selected from the waiting list to submit a full application, if you have them with you when submitting the pre-application the HACJ will take photo copies: Birth Certificates and Social Security Cards for all household members, proof of all income, photo IDs for all adult household members, proof of residency (if claiming the preference), and if there is more than one adult in the household, they must complete these additional forms.The HACJ does have a preference for applicants that live and/or work in Jefferson City.For more information, visit the HACJ website, or call the office at (573) 635-6163 during normal office hours.
