Please note: The Gainesvile Housing Authority covers Cooke County, TX.

The Gainesvile Housing Authority (GHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently open until further notice.

Please note: This waiting list has preferences. This means that applicants who qualify for these preferences will receive assistance before applicants who do not. Because of these preferences, applicants who do not qualify may have a longer wait to receive assistance.

There are two ways to apply:

  1. Call the GHA at (940) 665-1747 to request an application be mailed, from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm CT, Monday-Friday.
  2. Pick up an application at the GHA office, located at 715 E. California Street, Gainesville, TX 76240. 

Once the application has been completed, it can be mailed or hand delivered to the address above.

Please note: The GHA prefers applicants submit the application in person in case there is incomplete information.

This waiting list has the following preferences: Local, working, elderly, victim of domestic violence.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, by order of preferences.

Important note: Applicants who have been placed on the waiting list must inform the housing authority immediately if your application information changes (such as contact information, income, and household members). In the case that the office sends a notice that does not get returned, or if application information is out of date, your name may be terminated from the waiting list. Contact the housing authority to find out how to update application information.

Open Until Further Notice: Section 8 New Construction Program Other Project Based Waiting List

This waiting list is for Other Project Based rental housing assistance in Gainesville, Texas .

The Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) Section 8 New Construction Program waiting list for 2 and 3-Bedroom apartments is currently open.

The GHA is accepting applications for this waiting list from the earliest confirmed date of February 17, 2023, until further notice.

There are two ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. Pick up an application at the GHA office located at 715 E. California Street, Suite A, Gainesville, Texas 76240.
  2. Download and print the application online.

Once the paper application is completed, it must be either:

  1. Dropped off in person at the GHA office, address mentioned above.
  2. Mailed to the GHA office, PO Box 1359, Gainesville, Texas 76241.

There are no preferences.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received.
