The Mesquite Housing Division (MHD) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is closed.

The MHD last accepted applications for this waiting list for one day only on October 17, 2022. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

The maximum income limits for each household size were as follows:

  • 1 Person $20,450 | 5 Persons $32,470
  • 2 Persons $23,400 | 6 Persons $37,190
  • 3 Persons $26,300 | 7 Persons $41,910     
  • 4 Persons $29,200 | 8 Persons $46,630

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • A preference to any family that has been terminated from the HCV program due to insufficient program funding. This preference will receive the highest ranking.
  • The working family and veteran family preference will receive equal ranking and shall be ranked second to any family that has been terminated from the HCV program due to insufficient program funding.
  • A preference for working families (families where the head, spouse, co-head or sole member is employed.) An applicant family shall be given the benefit of the working family preference if the head, spouse, co-head or sole member is elderly (age 62 and over) and/or disabled.
  • Homeless.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Experiencing homelessness within the locality of Mesquite. Homelessness is defined as an individual or family who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence and/or any individual or family who is fleeing, or is attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or other dangerous or life-threatening conditions.
  • Terminated from another Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program due to insufficient program funding (this means the program did not have enough funding for the household's rental assistance)? Terminated means the household was living in a Section 8 unit.
  • Head, Spouse, Co-Head, or sole member employed, elderly (age 62 and over), or disabled
  • Head, Co-Head, or Spouse a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces

300 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.
