Closed: Whatcom County, Washington Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List

The Bellingham & Whatcom County Housing Authorities (BWCHA) last accepted Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from September 18, 2023, until September 22, 2023. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply while the waitlist was open, applicants were required to complete the online application.

The maximum income limits for each household size were as followed:

  • 1 Person $33,600 | 5 Persons $51,850
  • 2 Persons $38,400 | 6 Persons $55,700
  • 3 Persons $43,200 | 7 Person $59,550
  • 4 Persons $48,800 | 8 Persons $63,400

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Terminated due to Insufficient funding.
  • Individuals or families displaced by government action.
  • Individuals or  families who are either current residents of the Housing Authority Public Housing Program or other approved subsidized housing who are inappropriately housed or who are on the Public Housing waiting list and for whom the Housing Authority has no appropriate housing.
  • Families or victims of domestic violence.

400 selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.

The Bellingham and Whatcom County Housing Authorities (BWCHA) waiting list for Section 8 Project-Based Voucher apartments at Varsity Village is currently closed. It is not known when this waiting list was last open, or when it will reopen.

According to the BWCHA, Varsity Village is, "Located in the Happy Valley neighborhood of Bellingham.  Tenants typically pay 30% of their income toward rent."

The Bellingham Housing Authority (BHA) waiting list for 2-Bedroom Public Housing apartments is currently closed. Pre-applications were last accepted from October 25, 2019, until an unconfirmed close date.

According to the BWCHA, Birchwood Manor is, "Located in the Birchwood Neighborhood of Bellingham for households with a member age 62 or older or persons with a disability.  Tenants typically pay 30% of their income toward rent," and Catherine May is, "Located in the Samish Neighborhood of Bellingham for households with a member age 62 or older or persons with a disability.  Tenants typically pay 30% of their income toward rent."

The BWCHA is accepting applications from the earliest confirmed date of October, 2019, until further notice.

According to the BWCHA, Everson Meadows is, "Located in Everson specifically for households who earn income through agricultural employment."
