Closed: Madison, Wisconsin Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List

The Community Development Authority of the City of Madison (CDA) last accepted Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from March 27, 2023, until April 2, 2023. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Family that has been terminated from its HCV program due to insufficient program funding.
  • Family that has been referred under the Family Unification Program, the Moving Up Pilot Program, the Mainstream Voucher Program, or the Emergency Housing Voucher Program. Then
  • 1st Priority: Involuntarily displaced by federally declared disaster or FUP Youth Assistance expiration.
  • 2nd Priority: Elderly or disabled families or families with minor children, who live, work, or attend school within the City of Madison, and who are homeless or a victim of domestic abuse or have a rent burden.
  • 3rd Priority: Elderly or disabled families or families with minor children, who live, work, or attend school within the City of Madison.
  • 4th Priority: Applicants who live, work, or attend school within the City of Madison, and who are homeless or a victim of domestic abuse or have a rent burden.
  • 5th Priority: Applicants who live, work, or attend school within the City of Madison.
  • 6th Priority: Elderly or disabled families or families with minor children, who live outside of the City of Madison, but who live, work, or attend school in Dane County, and who are homeless or a victim of domestic abuse or have a rent burden.
  • 7th Priority: Elderly or disabled families or families with minor children, who live outside of the City of Madison, but who live, work, or attend school in Dane County.
  • 8th Priority: Applicants who live outside of the City of Madison, but who live, work, or attend school in Dane County, and are homeless or a victim of domestic abuse or have a rent burden.
  • 9th Priority: Applicants who live outside of the City of Madison, but who live, work, or attend school in Dane County.
  • 10th Priority: Elderly or disabled families or families with minor children, who live outside of Dane County, and who are homeless or a victim of domestic abuse or have a rent burden.
  • 11th Priority: Elderly or disabled families or families with minor children, who live outside of Dane County.
  • 12th Priority: Applicants who live outside of Dane County, and who are homeless or a victim of domestic abuse or have a rent burden.
  • 13th Priority: Applicants who live outside of Dane County.

2,000 selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.

Closed: Truax Park Apartments Section 8 Project-Based Voucher Waiting List

The Community Development Authority of the City of Madison (CDACM) waiting list for 2-Bedroom Section 8 Project Based Voucher apartments at Truax Park Apartments is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from June 1, 2020, until an unconfirmed close date. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application.

Preferences have not yet been confirmed.

Closed: Madison, Wisconsin Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List

The Community Development Authority of the City of Madison (CDA) Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from March 26, 2020, until an unconfirmed close date.

According to the CDA, the following households qualify:

  • "Families
    • At least 1 family household member is a non-elderly adult (age 18-61) with disabilities; and
    • Currently a client living in permanent supportive housing for the last 2 years, or a rapid rehousing project for the last 6 months
  • Singles
    • The individual is a non-elderly adult (age 18-61) with disabilities; and
    • Currently a client living in permanent supportive housing for the last 4 years, or a rapid rehousing project for the last 6 months

This includes any member of the family who is between the age of 18 and 61, and is a person with disabilities as defined in 42 U.S.C. 423."

There are two ways to apply during the opening period:

  • Head of household, the spouse, or the cohead is a person with disabilities
  • Minor children in the household
  • Head-of-household, spouse, or co-head is homeless and living in a public or private facility providing shelter, a motel or hotel, or is staying with other people because they are homeless (doubled-up); or the head-of-household, spouse, or co-head is a victim of a domestic-related crime.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, weighed by order of preferences.

The Community Development Authority of the City of Madison (CDA) will accept Wheelchair Accessible Only; waiting list applications for 1, 2 and 3-Bedroom Multifamily Housing apartments at Karabis Apartments from April 10, 2023, until further notice.

Karabis Apartments is:

  • Located at 201 S. Park Street
  • 20 units consisting of one-, two-, and three-bedroom barrier-free units
  • Designated by HUD to serve people with physical disabilities
  • Applicants must provide verification of the need for a wheelchair accessible unit

  • 12 two- and three-bedroom family units
