Located in West Oakland within walking distance of the BART station, Marcus Garvey Commons provides 22 family townhomes with individual, private rear patios for all units, small, shared front yards, and an outdoor children’s play area. The apartment homes encircle the development’s common spaces – parking lot, laundry room, community room and kitchen, and outdoor recreation area.
The project was named in honor of Marcus Garvey, who sought to better the economic development of African Americans and coordinated a national “Back to Africa” campaign.
Because Marcus Garvey Commons participates in HUD's HOME program for rental housing and the LIHTC program, at least some of the units in this property are set aside for households earning 60% or less of the AMI and rents are capped at the local FMR and in many cases much lower.
