Within its 6 stories are 96 units that offer lots of comfort and amazing views for people that are 62 years of age and older. There are also a limited number of mobility/disabled units available to those who quality over the age of 18. Flat Rock Co-op is nationally recognized as A Community of Quality by the National Affordable Housing Management Association. This co-op first opened its doors in 1989 and recently had a multi-million dollar renovation in 2007!
Flat Rock Towers has come to be a healthier and safer environment to live in by becoming 100% smoke free. Smoking is not allowed within the individual apartments, the common areas, and within 25 feet of the building.
Flat Rock Co-op isn't just an apartment building, it's a lively community. Activities and events are put on by volunteers from the co-op which not only is a great way to volunteer and stay active, but also provides a perfect medium for meeting neighbors and making friends. Some examples include bingo, needle craft, bunco, and monthly dinners and parties. If relaxing is what you feel like doing, then there are plenty of community rooms that have terrific views of the Huron River. They are pet friendly. The pet has to be 20 lbs. or under, and a pet deposit is required.
Directly across the street from Flat Rock Co-op is beautiful Huroc Park which is on the Huron River. This park is well known in the area for great fishing, and has many gazebos located throughout perfect for sitting and enjoying nature at its best. While on the opposite side of the co-op there is a bank, convenience store, and pharmacy.
Living in a co-op means living in a building that is controlled by the resident members. The resident members vote on all major operating decisions, including writing the annual budget. The membership also includes privileges such as serving in elected or appointed positions, voting in co-op elections, CSI board elections, corporate bylaw changes or other matters coming before the members. Resident members have the opportunity to attend many different functions throughout the year, including the CSI annual luncheon.
