McCain, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for HUD\u2019s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO), said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cIt is our hope that settlement of these cases will bring about much needed positive outcomes for these undeserved communities\u2026We also hope mortgage lenders across the country will take steps to avoid fair housing violations in their own REO portfolios.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>HUD\u2019s press release states that \u201cThe Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and in other housing-related transactions, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), familial status, and disability.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any person who believes they have experienced housing discrimination can file a complaint to HUD at 1 (800) 669-9777, or by <a title=\"HUD\u2019s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity: File a Complaint\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/program_offices\/fair_housing_equal_opp\/online-complaint#_How_to_File\">visiting this HUD website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a title=\"HUD Applauds Actions to Ensure that the Maintenance and Marketing of Real Estate Owned Portfolio Aligns with Fair Housing and Civil Rights Requirements\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/press\/press_releases_media_advisories\/HUD_No_22_024\">More information about these settlements can be found here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"multifamily\">Temporary COVID-19 underwriting mitigants for multifamily transactions removed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Date Posted: February 14, 2022<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) is removing temporary COVID-19 underwriting mitigants for multifamily transactions insured under Section 223(f) of the National Housing Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a title=\"HUD Mortgagee Letter 2022-03\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/sites\/dfiles\/OCHCO\/documents\/2022-03hsgml.pdf\">Announced on Monday<\/a> at the Mortgage Bankers Association Commercial\/Multifamily Finance Convention &amp; Expo, this action is \u201ceffective immediately for all insured transactions that have yet to reach endorsement,\u201d as stated in the HUD press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This removes the temporary requirements of nine months of debt service reserves, 250% repair escrows, and limits on cash-out refinance transactions were set in April, 2020 to counteract potential financial effects from the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lopa Kolluri, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Housing and FHA said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cThrough actions taken under the Biden-Harris Administration to help the nation recover from the pandemic, including the historic American Rescue Plan, mortgages in FHA\u2019s Multifamily insurance portfolio experienced fewer challenges than expected\u2026Because of this, we are in a position to unleash multifamily development capital by lifting these underwriting safeguards.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the press release, \u201cThis change allows lenders to return to using standard Multifamily Accelerated Processing (MAP) Guide policies going forward, which require fewer capital reserves to be held for debt service, a lower percentage of capital to be held in repair escrows, and more flexible requirements for the treatment of cash-out refinance transactions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HUD has created a Multifamily Accelerated Processing (MAP) Guide with instructions and requirements for FHA-insured mortgages for multifamily properties. <a title=\"Multifamily Accelerated Processing (MAP) Guide\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/program_offices\/administration\/hudclips\/guidebooks\/hsg-GB4430\">Read the Multifamily Accelerated Processing (MAP) Guide here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a title=\"Federal Housing Administration removes temporary COVID-19 underwriting mitigants for multifamily transactions\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/press\/press_releases_media_advisories\/HUD_No_22_025\">More information about this removal can be found here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Disclaimer: Affordable Housing Online is not affiliated with HUD, or any HUD agency.
