Also, a new toll-free automated phone service has been added to obtain contact information for housing counseling agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The updated online search tool is available in English and Spanish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner Julia Gordon said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cOur new housing counseling agency locator tools will help the public access quality housing counseling services, which are a crucial component of HUD\u2019s work to meet the housing needs of our nation\u2019s families. HUD-certified housing counselors can help consumers understand their options for buying their first home, obtaining rental assistance, considering a reverse mortgage, and avoiding eviction or foreclosure.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a title=\"HUD EXPANDS HOUSING COUNSELING AGENCY LOCATOR TOOLS - HUD.gov\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hud.gov\/press\/press_releases_media_advisories\/HUD_No_22_107\">More information on the new housing counseling agency search tool can be found here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HUD enters Consent Order with MD condo business<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Date Posted: June 7, 2022<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HUD has entered into a Consent Order with a Maryland condominium business to resolve alleged disability discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HUD\u2019s press release states:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cHUD\u2019s Charge of Discrimination alleged that Scarlett Place Residential Condominium and Brodie Management violated the Fair Housing Act because of disability when they refused to waive their rule limiting occupants to two persons per bedroom to allow a family of eight \u2013 one of which was a young child having bone marrow transplant treatment at nearby Johns Hopkins Hospital \u2013 to temporarily rent a three-bedroom condominium.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Demetria L. McCain, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cIt is unconscionable that families caring for children with disabilities could also face housing discrimination\u2026This consent order demonstrates HUD\u2019s commitment to protecting the fair housing rights of families and persons with disabilities.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a title=\"HUD ENTERS INTO AGREEMENT WITH MARYLAND CONDOMINIUM COMPANY AND MANAGEMENT AGENT TO RESOLVE CLAIMS OF DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION - HUD.gov\" has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grant awarded to support housing discrimination in PA<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Date Posted: June 7, 2022<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HUD awarded a $125,000 grant on Tuesday to support The Fair Housing Council of Suburban Philadelphia to better respond to housing discrimination complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HUD press release states that the funding will help the organization expand, so it can respond to the increased volume of complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the HUD press release:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cThese funds are provided through the Department\u2019s Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) both to help people who believe they have been victims of housing discrimination and to educate housing providers about fair housing laws.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><a title=\"HUD AWARDS FUNDING TO FIGHT HOUSING DISCRIMINATION - HUD.gov\"
