The Knox County Housing Authority is currently accepting public housing applications for families and elderly/disabled individuals.


The housing authority has three apartment complexes ranging from 2-4 bedrooms for families and two complexes dedicated to senior/disabled individuals.


The housing authority lists the following preferences that may improve your spot on the waiting list as:


Living and or working in Knox County (32 pts)
Employed for 4 or more months (16 pts)
Veteran (8 pts)
Displaced (4 pts)

Open Until Further Notice: Knox County Housing Authority Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List

The Knox County Housing Authority (KCHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program waiting list is currently open. It opened in December 2014, and is open indefinitely. This waiting list was last open in June 2012.

There are two ways to apply:

  1. Download and print the pre-application online.
  2. Pick up a pre-application at the KCHA office, located at 216 W. Simmons Street, Galesburg, IL. from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm ET, Monday-Thursday. 

Once the pre-application has been completed, it must be dropped off to the KCHA office at the address above.

The following preferences have been identified: Live or work in Knox County, employed or enrolled in higher education or job training, veteran, elderly, disabled, homeless, victim of domestic violence, displaced, rent burdened, living in substandard housing. Further explanation of each preference can be found here.

Applicants will receive a confirmation number upon submitting the pre-application. It is important to keep that number in a safe, easy to access place. It will be needed any time when referencing your pre-application with the housing authority.
