The Johnson County Housing Authority (JCHA) last accepted Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications for one day only July 12, 2023. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, applicants were required to complete the online application. 

The maximum income limits for each household size were as followed:

  • 1 Person $35,900 | 5 Persons $55,350   
  • 2 Persons $41,000 | 6 Persons $59,450
  • 3 Persons $46,150 | 7 Person $63,550
  • 4 Persons $51,250 | 8 Persons $67,650

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Residency
    • An applicant who lives in Johnson County excluding the City of Olathe. Additionally, applicants who work or have been hired to work in a residence preference area will be treated as residents of the preference area. (Verified by current driver’s license, current state identification, current lease, current utility bill, or employment verification.)
  • Survivor of Domestic Violence
    • Domestic violence means actual or threatened violence directed at the applicant or another member of his/her household. The domestic violence should have occurred recently (within the last 12 months) or be of a continuous nature. By claiming the survivor of domestic violence preference, the applicant must certify that the perpetrator will not reside with the applicant family unless the Housing Authority gives advanced written approval; the Johnson County Housing Authority may terminate assistance for breach of this agreement. (Verified by Domestic Violence Shelter or Police Report.)
  • Elderly and/or Disabled
    • An applicant who is at least 62 years of age and/or disabled. (Verified by birth certificate, Social Security Administration, or Medical Assessor.)
