This waiting list is for Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher rental housing assistance in County of Berrien and City of Benton Harbor, Michigan.

The Benton Harbor Housing Commission (BHHC) last accepted Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications for one day only on June 14, 2023. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

There were three ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. Pick up an application from the BHHC office.
  2. Call BHHC to request an application by mail.
  3. Mail a letter to the BHHC office to request an application be mailed.

Once the paper application was completed, it was to be either:

  1. Mailed to the BHHC office.
  2. Faxed to the BHHC office.
  3. Hand delivered to the BHHC office.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Terminated from its HCV program due to insufficient program funding.
  • ‘Working', where the head, spouse, cohead, or sole member is employed at least 20 hours per week.
    • Applicants must be gainfully employed for at least six (6) months and have a least 20 hours per week. Applicants must also retain employment for at least one year up to their anniversary date.
  • Victims of domestic violence
    • Dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking who have either been referred by a partnering service agency or consortia or is seeking an emergency transfer under VAWA from the PHA’s public housing program or other covered housing program operated by the PHA.

Selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by date and time the application was received, by order of preferences.
