The Shamokin Housing Authority is currently accepting public housing waiting list applications for families and senior/disabled individuals.
The SHA offers two public housing communities with 202 units for families and senior/disabled individuals.
To apply for public housing, you must visit the housing authority to pick up an application, located at 1 E Independence St., Shamokin, PA, during normal office hours.
Once the application has been completed, it must be hand delivered to the address listed above. Be sure to bring these original documents with you when handing in your application: birth certificates, social security cards, proof of all income, verification of assets, copies of bank statements, and photo IDs for all adult household members. All adult household members must be present when handing in the application.
This housing authority does have a preference and a full list of each preference is on the front page of the application.

The Shamokin City Housing Authority (SCHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. It was last open from 2015 until March 14, 2019.
To apply during the open period,applicants were required to visit the housing authority to pick up an application.

According to 2016 Q4 Picture of Subsidized Households data, the average voucher household contains 1.6 persons and has a household income of $10,559 per year. 96% of households were very low income (VLI) and 76% were extremely low income (ELI). 33% of households had wages as a major source of income, 2% of households had welfare (TANF, General Assistance or Public Assistance) as their primary source of income, and 63% of households had other income (Social Security, Disability or Pension) as their major source of income.
12% of households were headed by a person 24 years old or less, 34% were headed by a person 25 to 49 years old, 29% were headed by a person 51 to 60 years old, and 26% were headed by a person 62 years old or older. In addition, -1% of households were headed by a person 85 years old or older.
