What can I do if there's no waiting list open near me?

Answer

Check if there is an open waiting list administered by a Public Housing Agency that serves an area close by or serves an area in which you would want to live.

If there is, apply for that particular waiting list. Be aware, with most low-income program waiting lists, you must rent an apartment or house in the area served by the agency running the program. Only with a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher can you move to another area and that is usually after living for the first year in the agency’s jurisdiction, before you moving and using your Housing Choice Voucher somewhere else.
