The Housing Authority of New Haven (HANH) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List is currently closed. It was last opened for more than one week in January 2015. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

Family Senior Other

The New Haven Housing Authority is currently accepting public housing waiting list applications for families, senior/disabled individuals, and victims of domestic violence or VAWA program.

Please Note: For families, only the 3 and 4 bedroom waiting list is open at this time.

This housing authority has seven family communities, four senior communities, and seven senior/disabled communities, located throughout New Haven. For a complete listing of the communities and more information about each one, please follow this link.

Once the application has been completed it may be hand delivered or mailed to 360 Orange St.,
New Haven, CT 06509, during normal office hours. Be sure to include copies of: birth certificates, social security cards, proof of income, documentation of domestic violence, if applicable, and photo IDs for all adult household members.

Assisted Unit Distribution What is Housing Assistance?

The Housing Authority of New Haven administers both a public housing and Section 8 housing voucher program. The housing authority owns and manages 40 projects which contain 2,492 affordable rental units. It also administers 4,479 Section 8 housing vouchers.

Housing Authority Annual and 5 Year Plans

Public housing agencies, also called public housing authorities, which receive funding from HUD, are required to submit and receive approval from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development of both an Annual Plan and a 5 Year Plan. These plans establish each housing authority’s policies, strategies, programs and operations for meeting the housing needs of persons within their target area.
