1/25/19, 3:30 pm ET: Thirty-five days after shutting down the United States government to get more funding for a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, President Trump has announced that the government is reopening through February 15, 2019.
On Friday afternoon, Trump requested for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to immediately propose a bill on the Senate floor to reopen the government. President Trump has stated he will sign that bill.
“In a short while, I will sign a bill to open our government for three weeks, until February 15th,” Trump said.
It is not yet confirmed if this announcement guarantees necessary funding for affordable housing for March. Until a new deal is made by February 15, 2019, there is still a possibility that millions of low-income renters, including those in rural areas, could lose their housing assistance.
