$1.9 trillion stimulus bill passed by House, Senate approval next

On Saturday, the House of Representatives passed President Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus bill, which will now be debated by the Senate.

There are still many items to be argued between Senate Democrats and Republicans, but one frequently-discussed proposal is confirmed to not be included in the Senate’s version of the stimulus package.

Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough has stated that the proposed $15 minimum wage hike cannot be included in Senate negotiations. Some Democrats, such as Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have criticized this move. Ocasio-Cortez has suggested President Biden overrules MacDonough’s ruling.

When the final Senate bill is approved, it will then be brought to President Biden’s desk for him to sign.
