How To Apply to the Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List

The St. Louis Park Housing Authority (SLPHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently closed. Applications were last accepted from August 11, 2020, until August 13, 2020. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply during the opening period, complete the online application.

The maximum income limits for each household size were as follows:

1 Person - $36,200 | 5 People - $55,850
2 People - $41,400 | 6 People - $60,000
3 People - $46,550 | 7 People - $64,150
4 People - $51,700 | 8 People - $68,250

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Family of two persons
  • Age 50+ or disabled
  • Local Preference: Live, work, hired to work, or attend K-12 school in St. Louis Park, MN
  • Veteran, widow or widower of veteran

500 applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, weighed by order of preferences. According to the SLPHA, "If over 500 applications are received, the housing authority will reserve 50% of waiting list placements for applicants who live, work or attend school (K-12) full-time in St. Louis Park. The remaining waiting list placements will be chosen using a random sort of all remaining applicants."

Applications were originally scheduled to open April 7, 2020 until April 9, 2020, but the opening was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Please note: According to the SPHA website, "The 5 bedroom public housing waiting list will open September 15 at 8:00 a.m through September 25 at 4 p.m." However, the SPHA Facebook page states that the applications will be accepted until September 17, 2020, which is different from the website. Affordable Housing Online has not yet confirmed the correct closing date.

Heads of Household Characteristics

0% of households were headed by a person 24 years old or less, 62% were headed by a person 25 to 49 years old, 21% were headed by a person 51 to 60 years old, and 16% were headed by a person 62 years old or older. In addition, 3% of households were headed by a person 85 years old or older.

53% of households included children, 2% of which had two adults in the household. 52% of households with children have a female head of household. 81% of all households were headed by a female.

62% of all voucher households were headed by minorities with 58% of all heads of households being Black and -1% being Hispanic.

Of all households participating in the St Louis Park Housing Authority Housing Choice Voucher program, 19% include at least one person with a disability. 37% of households with a head of household 61 years or less were headed by a person with a disability. 55% of households headed by someone 62 or older were headed by a person with a disability.
