Please note: The HACPA public notice stated, "Applications will be accepted from the following categories of families:

  • Families for which at least one member is a U.S. Veteran (engaged in active duty or has honorable or general discharge), which may also include a surviving spouse of a deceased U.S. Veteran.  
  • Families who were displaced from their permanent residence in Perth Amboy due to a natural disaster within the last 18 months and are not yet in permanent replacement housing.  
  • Families who reside in Perth Amboy, or the head of household or spouse works in Perth Amboy. 
  • Applications that do not meet the criteria above will be disqualified without further notice."

Heads of Household Characteristics

0% of households were headed by a person 24 years old or less, 35% were headed by a person 25 to 49 years old, 22% were headed by a person 51 to 60 years old, and 43% were headed by a person 62 years old or older. In addition, 5% of households were headed by a person 85 years old or older.

32% of households included children, 4% of which had two adults in the household. 29% of households with children have a female head of household. 86% of all households were headed by a female.

91% of all voucher households were headed by minorities with 11% of all heads of households being Black and 3% being Hispanic.

The average monthly tenant contribution to rent by Housing Authority of the City of Perth Amboy voucher holders in 2016 was $480 and the average monthly HUD expenditure per voucher holder was $1,196. The average utility allowance across all voucher recipients is $145.
