How To Apply to the Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List

The Rocky Mount Housing Authority (RMHA) Section 8 Mainstream Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently open. Applications are being accepted since at least September 2020, until 39 applications have been received. 

Please note: To qualify for mainstream voucher program you must be non-elderly (at least age 18 and not yet 62 years of age) who are transitioning out of institutional or other segregated settings or at serious risk of institutionalization who often have difficulties in locating suitable and accessible housing on private market to lease affordable housing of their choice.

Heads of Household Characteristics

0% of households were headed by a person 24 years old or less, 64% were headed by a person 25 to 49 years old, 21% were headed by a person 51 to 60 years old, and 15% were headed by a person 62 years old or older. In addition, 0% of households were headed by a person 85 years old or older.

58% of households included children, 1% of which had two adults in the household. 58% of households with children have a female head of household. 93% of all households were headed by a female.

99% of all voucher households were headed by minorities with 98% of all heads of households being Black and 0% being Hispanic.

Of all households participating in the Rocky Mount Housing Authority Housing Choice Voucher program, 15% include at least one person with a disability. 32% of households with a head of household 61 years or less were headed by a person with a disability. 59% of households headed by someone 62 or older were headed by a person with a disability.
