How To Apply to the Centralized Waiting List
The Rhode Island Housing Choice Voucher Program Centralized Wait List Portal Section 8 HCV waiting list is currently open, from December 17, 2017 at 12:01 am ET, until further notice.
To apply, complete the online application here. Applications that are mailed, faxed, e-mailed or hand delivered will not be processed.
The waiting list will be sorted differently by each housing authority according to its own preferences.
Participating housing authorities may have any of the following preferences: Chronically homeless veteran; Disabled; Disabled Veteran; Displaced; Elderly; Homeless; Terminated from Johnston Housing Authority HCV program due to lack of funding; Job Training; Money Follows the Person; Near Elderly; Resident of jurisdiction of participating housing authority; Rhode Island resident; Rent burdened; Full time student; Unstable housing situation; Victim of Domestic Violence; Veteran; Witness protection; Working. Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, by order of preferences.

Heads of Household Characteristics
-1% of households were headed by a person 24 years old or less, 45% were headed by a person 25 to 49 years old, 29% were headed by a person 51 to 60 years old, and 26% were headed by a person 62 years old or older. In addition, 1% of households were headed by a person 85 years old or older.
33% of households included children, 2% of which had two adults in the household. 33% of households with children have a female head of household. 83% of all households were headed by a female.
18% of all voucher households were headed by minorities with 5% of all heads of households being Black and -1% being Hispanic.
