Since this property is a HOME program property that might not have a project based rental assistance contract, it is likely that it either has no waiting list or the waiting list is shorter than properties with rental assistance. You should contact the property to verify.
Note: Affordable Housing Online has not confirmed the waiting list status directly with the property. This waiting list status forecast is based on our housing experts' knowledge of similar properties. You should always confirm this status directly with the property.
Cornerstone Services provides residential services to adults and male adolescents with developmental disabilities in greater Will County. There are multiple residential locations throughout Joliet and greater Will County.
For adult residents, some live in group homes with 24-hour staff supervision; others live independently, receiving staff assistance with budgeting, shopping, and meal preparation. Most adult residents spend their weekdays in one of Cornerstone's day programs where they can work, learn and grow. In the evening and on weekends, adult residents may choose to participate in Special Olympics, arts and crafts, or cooking classes. Many residents enjoy volunteering for other community organizations.
For adolescents, Cornerstone provides 24-hour supervised residential services to boys with developmental disabilities ages 14 to 21 to help with making the transition from adolescence into adulthood. The boys attend regular school during the day, but continue to grow when they get home, learning good hygiene, budgeting, laundry, home maintenance, and other skills. Each boy has his own bedroom. There are plenty of socialization activities both in-home and out in the community to enjoy. There are movie nights and dessert nights, visits to the YMCA, library, bowling, shopping and other outdoor activities. Throughout the year residents are invited to participate in seasonal activities such as going to the pumpkin farm, holiday parties and celebrations where family can join in for dinner and festivities. Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit their children as often as possible. Many residents go home with their families for weekends and holidays, as well as family vacations.
Professional psychiatry, counseling, dietary, behavior analysis, and basic nursing services are part of the program. Additional services include employment and community services.
All residents must be diagnosed with a developmental disability and qualify for funding through the Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Developmental Disabilities. Cornerstone staff can assist individuals and their families with securing funding for residential services.

Because Cornerstone Housing participates in HUD's HOME program for rental housing, at least some of the units in this property are set aside for households at or below 60% of the AMI and rents are capped at the local FMR and in many cases much lower. For a project of this size, some of the units are set aside for households at or below 50% AMI with a corresponding lower rent cap. As this property appears not to have a project-based subsidy or any other Federal assistance, you likely will have to pay your own rent, albeit, at a lower rent amount thanks to the HOME program. Since this property participates in the HOME program, the property is required to accept Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers.

Applying for housing with bad credit.
Most HUD housing programs, like Section 8 and Public Housing, do not have a credit check. But Section 8 landlords will likely require one for an available unit.LMarie Murphy says:
