For the first time ever, St. Louis Equity Fund facilitated development in order to preserve one of St. Louis’ largest, affordable housing developments now known as JVL Renaissance I. SLEFI led efforts to create a new organization, known as JVL Renaissance, Inc., and acquired 62 HUD-owned buildings in North St. Louis. This project consists of 136 units and over 60% are three, four or five bedroom homes.

No subsidies are provided directly to the residents, but the owner must set rents affordable to low-income renters in the area. Our data suggests JVL Renaissance I does not participate in any project-based rent subsidy program. This means you must earn enough to pay the full rent or have your own Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher. For that reason, LIHTC properties tend to have shorter waiting lists or even none at all.
