In 1986 Cheshire opened the first of two small community-based homes, Cheshire II, in Parsippany, Cheshire II for six tenants. Cheshire III in Florham Park opened in 2003, housing eight tenants. These community homes were established in order to provide a comfortable, fully accessible residence for young men and women with physical disabilities who do not require 24- hour nursing care.
Since this property was built or renovated using funding from HUD's current Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities program or legacy Section 202 program, residency is usually restricted to households earning 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) or less with at least one adult member with a disability. Tenants pay rent based on household income. This rent is usually the highest of the following three amounts: either 30% adjusted monthly income, or 10% unadjusted monthly income, or, if receiving welfare assistance, the housing costs portion of this assistance.
Generally, households earning up to the income limit in the table below for their household size are eligible for units participating in a HUD rental assistance program in Parsippany-Troy Hills but actual income limits may differ for units at Cheshire Home II.
