I founded Affordable Housing Online 15 years ago to help low income Americans find housing assistance online. On Sunday, I, and Affordable Housing Online, endorsed Hillary Clinton for President in an opinion piece detailing why I think Donald Trump, if elected President, will try to eliminate the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program and other housing and public assistance programs relied on by lower income Americans. After much deliberation and study over the course of the last 18 months, it is my conclusion that Hillary Clinton has a solid plan to address America’s affordable housing crisis. In addition, it is my conclusion, given the positions he has taken, that Donald Trump will not just ignore the problem of affordable housing in America, he will make it worse by trying to eliminate or drastically reduce legacy safety net programs like SNAP, Head Start and Section 8 vouchers. As a mission based business not affiliated with any government agency, housing program, or nonprofit organization and having never received one dollar of charitable or Federal assistance, it is our right and prerogative to endorse a political candidate of our choosing. I have spent long hours on this decision and I know some people might think, as a media company, we should stay impartial. However, as a mission based business that exists for the sole purpose of helping low income Americans find housing assistance, we can not sit by and watch Donald Trump decimate already struggling low income Americans. This is why I stand by our endorsement of Hillary Clinton for President. Since publishing my opinion piece on Sunday night, it has gone viral and been seen by over 400,000 people on Facebook and shared over 12,000 times. You can read it and participate in the conversation here. The endorsement has received a mostly positive reaction with thousands of people sharing the article with friends urging them to go vote to make sure their voices are heard. That’s exactly why I wrote it. To make sure every low income American knows what’s at stake for them and their families. For those of you who are angry at me for taking a side in this election (and I have gotten quite a bit of hate mail) I can understand why you might be disappointed. But, you should know that my intentions are pure and I am following my heart with this endorsement. I know that Donald Trump will harm poor America and Hillary Clinton will lift it up. And I make no apologies for lifting up low income Americans. If you have not voted already and you believe that government should help the less fortunate it is incredibly important that you get out and vote today for Hillary Clinton. Every vote is important in this election. Your vote is the most important vote in this election. If you are or know a low income American, stop whatever you are doing and go vote right now. If you don’t know where your polling place is, you can find your polling place here. Thank You and God Bless America.
