Updated income limits for apartments and housing listed on Affordable Housing Online are now in effect as of last week.
One of the key components in determining eligibility for affordable housing programs is income requirements. These requirements are made to make low-income housing available for those who need it most.
These qualifications are adjusted by the federal government annually, and are based on the area's current median income. This year's income limits were put into effect last week on May 15, 2023.
In areas with new income limits, the availability of affordable housing changes for many renters. A higher income limit makes housing available to a wider range of renters than the year before.
But the opposite may also be true. A household may find that they no longer qualify for housing in areas with lower income limits than last year.
Visit Affordable Housing Online, and search for your city, county or state.
On that page, select the "Jump to Affordable Housing Summary" link at the top of the page, and scroll down to the table named "Income Qualifications for HUD Rental Assistance." This table shows the area's income limits.

Know your rights as a Section 8 tenant.
Some states and local governments have laws that protect renters with a Section 8 voucher who are looking for an available unit. Check your local laws.Vickie Fields-Byrd says:
