Fiscal Year 2019 Trump Budget Decimates Housing Programs

On February 12, 2018, the Trump Administration released its Fiscal Year 2019 Budget Summary. The White House is proposing an $8.8 billion cut representing a massive 18.3% cut.

Among programs being cut by the President are:

  • $977 million (4.8%) cut to Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers
  • $1.6 billion (44%) cut to the Public Housing Operating Fund
  • $1.94 billion (100%) cut to Public Housing Capital Fund
  • $3.06 billion (100%) cut to Community Development Block Grants
  • $950 million (100%) cut to HOME

In addition, the budget is said to include policy changes that would impose work requirements on recipients who are not seniors or persons with disabilities. It is also expected tenant contribution requirements will go up as proposed last year from 30% of one's income to 35%.
