Santa Ana Housing Authority Section 8 HCV Waiting List : Open Indefinitely

The Santa Ana Housing Authority (SAHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently open on a limited basis, This limited waiting list is open indefinitely. The waiting list was last open to the general public for one month in July 2015. There is no notice of when this waiting list will reopen to the general public.
Please note: This limited waiting list opening is "only for US veterans that live or work in the city of Santa Ana."
To apply, visit this web page and click "Applicant Portal" to complete the online application. No paper applications will be accepted.
Disabled applicants who require reasonable accommodation to complete the pre-application can call (714) 667-2200 during normal business hours.
If an applicant does not have access to the Internet, they can visit any public library, senior center, or the SAHA office, located at 20 Civic Center Plaza, first floor, Santa Ana, CA, to complete a pre-application.
The SAHA has identified the following preferences: Live or work in the City of Santa Ana, United States Veterans who have served for at least 90 days and been discharged by any definition but dishonorable (proof of DD214 required)
Applicants will receive a confirmation number upon submitting the pre-application. It is important to keep that number in a safe, easy to access place. It will be needed any time when referencing your pre-application with the housing authority.
In 2015, 5,000 qualified general public applicants were placed onto the waiting list by random lottery.
According to this news article published July 7, 2015, there were so many applicants online when the waiting list reopened, the website crashed, but it was back up within the hour.
The SAHA has a voucher turnover rate of about eight to 10 vouchers per month.
