Aptos Blue provides 40 families with affordable rental homes in Santa Cruz County. Located near a major shopping center, public library, and public transportation lines, Aptos Blue residents live, work, and play in their neighborhood. The community marks one of the six sites re-zoned by the County with the goal to provide affordable housing. Five units are set aside for individuals and families with special needs. In addition to new construction, Aptos Blue includes the renovation of the historic Castro House. The house now provides a shared space for the residents including a community room, a common kitchen, an After School Program classroom, and a beautiful community garden outside.
Because Aptos Blue participates in HUD's HOME program for rental housing and the LIHTC program, at least some of the units in this property are set aside for households earning 60% or less of the AMI and rents are capped at the local FMR and in many cases much lower. Because of the LIHTC program, additional units are set aside for households earning 50% or less of the AMI with corresponding lower rent caps.
