Deer Creek Village is a family housing site of 92 two-story town homes located south and east of Highland Park High School off SE 25th Street. A Police Substation is located in the community center for use by the Topeka Police Department officers who patrol the area.
The Deer Creek Community Center, located on this site, is the largest of THA's community centers. The center has both indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a modern playground, and a picnic area. It is home base for a variety of programs.
These include:
Also,
Western Plaza
Western Plaza is a smaller twin of Deer Creek Village, with 22 two, three, four, and five bedroom town-home apartments. The complex is located four blocks northeast of Washburn University with ample off-street parking and a modern playground for children.
The neighborhood is within easy walking distance of Central Park Community Center and Robinson Middle School.
There are no computer labs at Western Plaza, but residents can make arrangements to use the computer labs at Tyler Towers located one block away.
This property is funded through HUD’s Public Housing program. These properties are typically owned and managed by a Public Housing Authority. These properties tend to be much older, as no new public housing has been built in many years. Since the Federal budget has historically (and notoriously) underfunded public housing renovations for decades, these properties tend to have higher vacancies due to uninhabitable units or liveable units that are in poor condition. In addition, since all public housing properties offer rent subsidies, low-income residents only pay rent based on their incomes. For that reason, these properties tend to have longer waiting lists. Check our public housing waiting list data for more information. Since Deer Creek Village/ Western Plaza participates in the Public Housing program and has a property based subsidy, if you have a Section 8 voucher, you would have to give up your voucher to move in.
