The Machon is a mixed-income senior community – income qualifications and rent restrictions apply. A 55+ affordable apartment community, The Machon in Swampscott, Massachusetts offers the comfort and ease of apartment living with all of the thoughtful finishing touches that make this a wonderful place to call home.
Originally built in the 1920’s, The Machon Elementary School, has been transformed into 38 one bedroom apartment homes. The original architectural detail has been preserved as well as a new addition created. Each apartment home has been designed with seniors in mind, and The Machon offers living like no other with plentiful community amenities and programming that will provide residents with opportunities to lead active lifestyles.
Because The Machon participates in HUD's HOME program for rental housing and the LIHTC program, at least some of the units in this property are set aside for households earning 60% or less of the AMI and rents are capped at the local FMR and in many cases much lower. For a HOME project of this size, some of the units are set aside for households at or below 50% AMI with a corresponding lower rent cap. As this property appears not to have a project-based subsidy or any other Federal assistance, you likely will have to pay your own rent, albeit, at a lower rent amount thanks to the HOME and LIHTC programs.
