Affordable Housing
Berean Community Family Life Center believes it is important to be part of the community revitalization that is taking place throughout our city; while simultaneously ensuring that residents of communities like Crown Heights continue to have access to affordable housing.

In 2010 Berean Community & Family Life Center entered into a partnership with PK Developers, forming Berean Apartments LLC, to develop a 107 Unit Affordable Housing Complex and the new Berean Community & Family Life Center. With assistance from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, NYC Department of Housing and Preservation and Development and NYC Housing Development Corporation, BCFLC now provides housing for over 200 individuals.

The first two floors of the complex will be the new home for the Berean Community and Family Life Center (BCFLC). BCFLC will serve as the Social Service Provider for tenants in the building. In addition, we will continue to provide the quality social service, education and health and wellness programs that we have been providing to the community for the past 26 years. The new BCFLC will include classrooms, a fitness center, a state of the art conference room and a multi-purpose space for community groups

Dave's Thoughts On Berean Apartments

Because Berean Apartments participates in HUD's HOME program for rental housing and the LIHTC program, at least some of the units in this property are set aside for households earning 60% or less of the AMI and rents are capped at the local FMR and in many cases much lower. For a HOME project of this size, some of the units are set aside for households at or below 50% AMI with a corresponding lower rent cap. As this property appears not to have a project-based subsidy or any other Federal assistance, you likely will have to pay your own rent, albeit, at a lower rent amount thanks to the HOME and LIHTC programs. Since this property participates in the HOME and LIHTC programs, the property is required to accept Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers.
