Located on the corner of Pitt and Houston Streets on the Lower East Side, this 12-story building is both a design standout and a seamless addition to a dynamic neighborhood. The Lee is home to a mix of homeless adults with special needs (HIV/AIDS, chronic mental illness), low-income workers, many of whom are from the community, and 55 young adults who were at high risk of homelessness at the time they aged out of the foster care system.
Many tenants make use of extensive bike storage in the courtyard, riding to the store, to the subway, or in neighboring Hamilton Fish Park, and blending in with the long-time locals, immigrant newcomers and trendy hipsters who make the neighborhood what it is today.
Because Lee participates in HUD's HOME program for rental housing and the LIHTC program, at least some of the units in this property are set aside for households earning 60% or less of the AMI and rents are capped at the local FMR and in many cases much lower. For a HOME project of this size, some of the units are set aside for households at or below 50% AMI with a corresponding lower rent cap. As this property appears not to have a project-based subsidy or any other Federal assistance, you likely will have to pay your own rent, albeit, at a lower rent amount thanks to the HOME and LIHTC programs.
