Since this property is a USDA Section 515 property with rental assistance for some or all units, there might be seperate or split waiting lists for rental assistance and non-rental assistance units. In this case, the rental assistance waiting list can be much longer than properties without rental assistance. The non-rental assistance units waiting list is likely much shorter or it may not have a waiting list at all. You should contact the property to verify.
Note: Affordable Housing Online has not confirmed the waiting list status directly with the property. This waiting list status forecast is based on our housing experts' knowledge of similar properties. You should always confirm this status directly with the property.
Thank you for visiting our web site, we look forward to hearing from you. Westowne Apartments are located in McCormick, South Carolina a town with lots of historic sites to visit ; the Dorn Museum, Edan Hall, The Mack Building and the Dorn Mines. The town is best known for being built over the Dorn Mines. The town of McCormick was incorporated in 1882. In February 1852 William Dorn discovered the second richest vein of gold in SC history on the site of the present town of McCormick. The town actually grew in size because of its mines. People came here to get rich fast. The current population is about 10,000 according to the 2000 census. Every year we celebrate with a Gold Rush Festival. Some of the original buildings are still standing on Main Street. At the Mack building each month a different local artist work is displayed. We are becoming a tourist town people come from all over the state to visit our parks, resort area (Savannah Lakes) hunting grounds, fishing and parks. We host many fishing tournaments each year on Lake Thurmond. We have three parks they are Hickory Knob State Park, Bakers Creek and Hamilton Branch State Park. For leisure time we have three golf courses for your pleasure. Westowne Apartments are located on Talbert Road. The Apartments site is less than; mile form the McCormick High School. Two miles from the District area. We have 8 one bedroom, 24 two bedrooms and 8 three bedroom. All of our units are subsidized under the Section 8 program through the U.S. Department of HUD.
This property was financed by the USDA Section 515 program. This housing program was used to build affordable apartment communities in rural areas from the 1970’s through the 1990’s, with very few new properties built since then. Historically, the program had financial restrictions that limited the size, quality and amenities at properties. Unless Westowne Apartments has been renovated, it is likely to have smaller units and fewer amenities. Since the property is in a rural area, it may be one of only a few affordable rentals in the area. This property also participates in the Section 8 Project-Based Rental Assistance program that helps residents pay rent. If your income is at or below 50% of the AMI, you would only pay 30% of your income toward rent. Since the property has a tenant-based subsidy, it is likely to have a longer waiting list than other properties. If you need help paying your rent and you live in a rural area, this property might be for you. Since this property participates in the Section 8 Project Based Rental Assistance program and has a property based subsidy, if you have a Section 8 voucher, you would have to give up your voucher to move in.
