The Milwaukee County Housing Division (MCHD) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher wait list is currently closed. It was last open for three days in July 2016, and before that in 2001.


Please note: This waiting list has preferences. This means that applicants who qualify for these preferences will receive assistance before applicants who do not. Because of these preferences, applicants who do not qualify may have a longer wait to receive assistance.



There were three ways to apply during the opening period:

  1. On July 12, 2016, applicants were required to complete an application at the MLK Jr. Rec Center.
  2. On July 13, 2016, applicants were required to complete an application at the Gordon Park Pavilion.
  3. On July 14, 2016, applicants were required to complete an application at the McCarty Park.

This waiting list has the following preferences: Terminated from HCV program due to insufficient funding, homeless, veteran, residents of the MCHD's jurisdiction, working family, disabled. Please note: We are unable to confirm the jurisdiction of the MCHD. We have contacted the MCHD and will update our page when more information becomes available.


Applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.


Households placed on the waiting list will receive notification before September 6, 2016. Households not placed on the waiting list will not be contacted.


Important note: Applicants who have been placed on the waiting list must inform the housing authority immediately if your application information changes (such as contact information, income, and household members). In the case that the office sends a notice that does not get returned, or if application information is out of date, your name may be terminated from the waiting list. Contact the housing authority to find out how to update application information.
