Getting close to the end of the week, Affordable Housing Online has seven updates for Section 8, Project-Based Voucher, Public Housing, and more waiting lists!
Today's alert is for low-income housing in eastern and midwestern parts of the country.
This is your affordable housing waiting list alert for Thursday, July 25, 2024:
These waiting lists open today after being closed for a period of time. Most of these openings are only for a limited time, so don't delay if an opportunity is right for you.
Mobile, Alabama Section 8 Voucher Waiting List
Beginning today's openings, the Mobile Housing Authority (MHA) will accept Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications starting July 25, 2024, at 10:00 am CT, until 2,000 applications are received. This is the first time the waiting list has been open since it closed in March 2022.
The waiting list includes several preferences, including victims of federally declared disasters, working families, elderly or disabled applicants, and veterans. Applications will be placed on the waiting list based on the date and time received, with preferences influencing placement. Interested applicants must complete the online application.

Charleston, South Carolina Public Housing Waiting List
Shifting to another housing program, the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston (CHA) will accept Public Housing waiting list applications for 3-bedroom apartments for just one hour on July 25, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm ET.
Preferences and selection processes are currently unconfirmed. To apply, complete the online application during the specified time.

These waiting lists opened on a previous day and are scheduled to close today. Even though a number of applications have already been submitted, it is still possible to qualify for these waiting lists.
Chicago Heights, Illinois Veteran Project Based Voucher Waiting List
As today's single closure, the Housing Authority of Cook County (HACC) is accepting Veteran Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list applications for 1 and 2-bedroom apartments at Otto Square Veterans Housing until July 25, 2024, at 4:00 pm CT.
Applications are currently only being accepted from veterans. Placement on the waiting list will be determined by a randomized computer-generated lottery system, based on preferences. Applications must be submitted online.

Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania Section 8 Voucher Waiting List
Moving back to Section 8 briefly for today's announcements, the Housing Authority of the County of Lackawanna (HACL) will accept Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from August 1, 2024, until August 16, 2024. The waiting list last opened in April 2023.
Preferences include victims of domestic violence, residency or employment in Lackawanna County, veterans, elderly, and disabled families.
Applications will be placed on the waiting list by date and time received, with preferences affecting placement. Applicants can either pick up an application from the HACL main office or print it from the HACL website and mail it once completed.

Shreveport, Louisiana Project-Based Waiting List
Shifting to project-based housing, the Housing Authority of the City of Shreveport (HACS) will accept waiting list applications for 3-bedroom apartments at Scattered Sites and Hollywood Heights from August 1, 2024, at 8:00 am until August 15, 2024, at 5:00 pm CT.
The waiting list has been closed since February 2024. Preferences and the selection process are yet to be confirmed. Applications must be submitted online.

Bossier City, Louisiana Public Housing Waiting List
Staying within the state, the Housing Authority of Bossier City (HABC) will accept Public Housing waiting list applications for 1 and 2-bedroom apartments from August 1, 2024, at 8:00 am until August 15, 2024, at 5:00 pm CT.
This is the first opening since February 2024. Preferences and selection processes are unconfirmed. Interested applicants are required to complete the online application during the specified timeframe.

Freeport, Illinois Low Income Housing Tax Credit Waiting List
As our final update today, the Winnebago County Housing Authority (WHA) will accept Low Income Housing Tax Credit waiting list applications for 1, 2, and 3-bedroom apartments at Westport Village starting August 1, 2024, until further notice. The preferences and selection process are yet to be confirmed. Applications must be submitted online.
