New Brewster Homes re-built in 1994 is comprised of two (2) and three (3) bedroom units which are equipped with brand new stoves and refrigerators. You will love the full size basements and the units has washer and dryer hook ups. With a total of 250 units each are going through renovations which includes new paint, floor tile, cabinets and upgraded counter-tops. New Brewster Homes is located at the corner of Mack/75 freeway conveniently located right across the street from the Detroit Medical Center. It also conveniently provides access to all major freeways. Spain Elementary, Crockett, Martin Luther King High School, and Wayne State University are also just minutes away. For your entertainment the Fox Theater, Comerica Park and Ford Field are within walking distance and the Annual Fire Works can be seen without leaving the community.
This property is funded through HUD’s Public Housing program. These properties are typically owned and managed by a Public Housing Authority. These properties tend to be much older, as no new public housing has been built in many years. Since the Federal budget has historically (and notoriously) underfunded public housing renovations for decades, these properties tend to have higher vacancies due to uninhabitable units or liveable units that are in poor condition. In addition, since all public housing properties offer rent subsidies, low-income residents only pay rent based on their incomes. For that reason, these properties tend to have longer waiting lists. Check our public housing waiting list data for more information. Since Brewster Homes participates in the Public Housing program and has a property based subsidy, if you have a Section 8 voucher, you would have to give up your voucher to move in.
