Rio Vista Detroit Co-op is located in the heart of Detroit’s Mexican Village. This 3-story, 65 unit senior community offers the enjoyment and freedom that comes with independent living aged 62+. Living in a co-op means living in a building that is controlled by the resident members. The resident members vote on all major operating decisions, including writing the annual budget. The membership also includes privileges such as serving in elected or appointed positions, voting in co-op elections, CSI board elections, corporate bylaw changes or other matters coming before the members. Resident members have the opportunity to attend many different functions throughout the year, including the CSI annual luncheon. The HOME Rental Assistance Program provides affordable housing to low and moderate income families. Apartment communities that participate in the program must ensure that 90% of units are occupied by households at or below 60% of the area median income and the remaining 10% of the units are occupied by households at or below 80% of the area median income. Furthermore, if the community has five or more units participating in the HOME program, 20% of those units must be occupied for households at or below 50% of the area median income.
