Commons on MLK Waiting List

The Homes for Good Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list for Studio apartments at Commons on MLK is currently open. Referrals will be accepted from October 20, 2020 until further notice.

The Commons on MLK is a Permanent Supportive Housing program with 51 unit studio apartment for people experiencing chronic homelessness. It is located at 2315 MLK Jr Blvd next door to Lane County Behavioral Health.

Please note: According to Homes for Good " Placement into The Commons on MLK is done ONLY through referrals from Lane County's Centralized Waitlist through the Coordinated Entry System."

The maximum income limits for each household size are as follows:

1 Person $24,500
2 Persons $28,000

This waiting list has the following preferences:

Chronically homeless individuals: This includes people who are currently homeless and have been homeless for 12 or more months in the last three years AND have a disabling condition. A disabling condition is any type of condition or disability that is expected to be long term and that could make it harder to find housing. It does not require that someone has been found eligible for social security disability or supplemental security income (SSDI or SSI)
Those who participate in the FUSE program or who are high utilizers of crisis systems such as the jail and hospital emergency room

It is not known how applicants will be placed on the waiting list.

A Community project to house and support people in their community that have been homeless the longest with 51 units.
In Lane County, the need to address homelessness has garnered the attention of state and local agencies, health organizations, and community leaders from all political backgrounds. The establishment of a Housing First community meets the goals outlined in the Lane County Poverty and Homelessness Board Strategic Plan, and needs identified in the Community Health Improvement Plan and the Lane County Strategic Plan. In late 2016, Lane County Health & Human Services provided funding to Homes for Good Housing Agency to conduct a feasibility analysis to identify overall feasibility, timing and cost of a Housing First Project in Lane County. The analysis also included visiting several existing Housing First projects.

These initial efforts resulted in a 51-unit Housing First complex with an array of supportive services on Martin Luther King Blvd in Eugene, Oregon next to both Lane County Behavioral Health and Community Health Center primary health care. The project utilizes a Housing First Supported Housing model with supports available 24 hours a day through an array of on-site providers. Project funding includes a variety of sources including tax credits, federal and local funding and private grants. Construction completed in January of 2021, with the first residents moving in shortly after.
