At the start of a new week, Affordable Housing Online has 10 updates for Section 8, Project-Based Voucher, Public Housing, and more waiting lists!
Today's alert is for low-income housing in the Southeast, Midwest, Northwest, and West Coast.
This is your affordable housing waiting list alert for Monday, July 29, 2024:
These waiting lists open today after being closed for a period of time. Most of these openings are only for a limited time, so don't delay if an opportunity is right for you.
Vacaville, California Project Based Voucher Waiting Lists
On the west coast, the Vacaville Housing Authority (VHA) will open its Section 8 Project Based Voucher waiting list applications for various properties. From July 29, 2024, at 8:30 am to August 12, 2024, at 5:00 pm PT, applications will be accepted for 2 and 3-bedroom apartments at Orchard Maples, 2-bedroom apartments at The Willows, and 3-bedroom apartments at Lincoln Corner Apartments.
A total of 200 applicants will be selected by random lottery, considering any preferences that may be established. Interested individuals should complete the online application within the open timeframe.

Homewood, Illinois Senior Project Based Voucher Waiting List
Moving east, the Housing Authority of Cook County (HACC) will accept Senior Section 8 Project Based Voucher waiting list applications for 1 and 2-bedroom apartments at Freedom Village Apartments. This opening period will run from July 29, 2024, at 10:00 am to August 1, 2024, at 4:00 pm CT.
Freedom Village provides housing for seniors aged 62 and older. This waiting list has a preference for applicants currently on the HACC’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program waitlist. The selection process will place 150 applicants on the 1-bedroom waiting list and 75 applicants on the 2-bedroom waiting list by random lottery, weighed by the given preference. Applications must be submitted online while the waitlist is open.

Charleston, South Carolina Public Housing Waiting List
Continuing eastward, the Housing Authority of the City of Charleston (CHA) will accept Public Housing waiting list applications for 5-bedroom apartments for one day only on July 29, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm ET. This is the last in a series of Public Housing apartment openings by the CHA that began last week.
Preferences for the CHA waiting list have not yet been confirmed, and it is not known how applicants will be placed on the waiting list. To apply during this brief window, individuals are required to complete the online application.

Spartanburg, South Carolina Rental Assistance Demonstration Waiting List
Staying in the state, the Spartanburg Housing Authority (SHA) will accept Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) waiting list applications for Frank Gooch Apartments from July 29, 2024, at 9:00 am until August 9, 2024, at 12:00 pm ET.
Preferences for applicants have not yet been confirmed, and the selection process details are currently unknown. To apply, individuals are required complete the online application.

These waiting lists opened on a previous day and are scheduled to close today. Even though a number of applications have already been submitted, it is still possible to qualify for these waiting lists.
Norfolk, Virginia Project-Based Voucher and LIHTC Waiting List
The one closure today is by the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA). The NRHA is accepting Section 8 Project-Based Voucher and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program waiting list applications for Diggs Town Phase I Apartments until July 29, 2024, at 4:00 pm ET.
Diggs Town Phase I has specific requirements for residency. According to the NRHA, the head of household and all household members 18 years or older (except full-time students) must be employed a minimum of 15 hours per week for at least six months, unless they are elderly, disabled, or the primary caretaker of a blind or disabled person as defined by the Social Security Act.
Interested applicants can complete the online application during the open period.

Whitman County, Washington Section 8 Voucher Waiting List
Starting with a big opening, the Community Action Center (CAC) will accept Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from August 6, 2024, at 8:00 am until August 12, 2024, at 11:59 pm PT. This is the first time the waiting list will open since it closed in February 2023.
The waiting list for Whitman County has several preferences, including applicants who currently reside in Whitman County, disabled, and elderly individuals. Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by the date and time the application is received, considering the order of preferences.
To apply while the waiting list is open, individuals must complete the online application.

Crestview, Florida Public Housing Waiting Lists
As the last update of the day, the Crestview Housing Authority (CHA) will accept Public Housing waiting list applications for 3 and 5-bedroom apartments starting August 12, 2024, until further notice. The CHA will also start accepting Senior Public Housing waiting list applications on that day.
Preferences for either of the waiting lists have not yet been confirmed, and the selection process details are also currently unknown. Applications are required to be submitted online while the waitlist is open.
