The Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Authority (SHRA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently open, from January 16, 2018 at 12:01 am, until January 30, 2018 at 11:59 pm PT. It was last open in September 2015, and prior to that for two weeks in September 2014.

To apply, complete the online application here. If an applicant does not have access to the Internet, they can use a computer at a local library.

This waiting list has the following preferences: Live, work, or hired to work in Sacramento County; veteran; permanently disabled; rent burdened; homeless.

Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by random lottery, after sorting preferences.

To apply, visit the Housing Choice Voucher Program page here, and scroll down to the "Project-based Assistance" section. If a waiting list is open, there will be a link titled "Click here to apply." 

This waiting list has the following preference: Veterans.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is NOT the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. Section 8 Project-Based Voucher tenants are required to live in a specific apartment community or scattered site. After one year of occupancy, a Project-Based Voucher tenant may request to be placed on a waiting list to receive the next available Housing Choice Voucher or similar tenant-based rental assistance.
