The site is just a few blocks away from the Park DuValle Community Health Center, Jefferson Community and Technical College, the Western Branch Library, the Chestnut Street YMCA, and the Baxter Community Center and Park. Avenue Plaza has a large community room for residents on the 2nd floor with an adjoining roof patio area, and a laundromat.
Since this property is owned and managed by a Public Housing Authority, all of the rents at this property are based on tenant incomes. Tenants will make a monthly contribution toward rent equal to 30% of their adjusted income. A housing authority may establish a minimum rent of up to $50.
Since this property was built or renovated using funding from HUD's Section 202 or 811 programs, residency is usually restricted to households earning 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) or less with at least one member either disabled or 62 years or older. Tenants pay rent based on household income. This rent is usually the highest of the following three amounts: either 30% adjusted monthly income, or 10% unadjusted monthly income, or, if receiving welfare assistance, the housing costs portion of this assistance.
