Robert Whalen Home is a family development built in 1950. It is the oldest housing authority property, comprised of 108 units in six walk up buildings. It is located in a residential neighborhood just off an interstate highway and is next door to another assisted property that was substantially rehabbed in the late 1990’s. There is a HEAD START Daycare center adjacent to the Manager’s office in one of the buildings.
Since this property is owned and managed by a Public Housing Authority, all of the rents at this property are based on tenant incomes. Tenants will make a monthly contribution toward rent equal to 30% of their adjusted income. A housing authority may establish a minimum rent of up to $50.
Generally, households earning up to the income limit in the table below for their household size are eligible for units participating in a HUD rental assistance program in Albany but actual income limits may differ for units at Robert Whalen Homes.
