Since this property may have HUD-funded Public Housing with subsidies that help pay tenants' rent, the property is likely to have a long waiting list. Housing authorities often open these waiting lists periodically. Important: Housing authorities don't always open housing waiting lists at a property-specific level or even allow applicants to choose at which property they can live. Many times, the housing authority will assign an applicant to a property without giving the applicant a choice.
Note: Affordable Housing Online has not confirmed the waiting list status directly with the property. This waiting list status forecast is based on our housing experts' knowledge of similar properties. You should always confirm this status directly with the property.
Townsend Park Homes is a 158 unit senior high rise building consisting of one bedroom apartments. Conveniently located on the CDTA bus line, Townsend Park Homes is minutes away from downtown Albany, the major shopping malls and supermarkets: ShopRite, Price Chopper and Hannaford. A free shuttle bus picks up residents weekly for their grocery shopping at Price Chopper. There are onsite laundry facilities and a computer lab.
In recent years Townsend Park has undergone renovations to the elevator system, remodeling of the main floor and upper floors, new window installation in all apartments, upgrade to the heating system and upgrade to the fire prevention system.
Subsidized by HUD, rent is based on 30% of a resident’s income and includes heat and electric. There is an additional fee for air conditioning. The age requirement is 62 and older for seniors and 55 and older if a resident is disabled.
Community Room
The community room is open daily and features an outdoor patio, a large screen LCD TV for entertainment and two internet-enabled PCs for work and research. It is here that residents may partake in congregate lunch Monday – Friday. For a small fee, residents may reserve the community room for private parties.
Senior Services of Albany offers their counseling services twice monthly. Services provided include assisting residents with Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, medical transportation, home care services and other social/health/welfare issues pertaining to seniors.
This property is funded through HUD’s Public Housing program. These properties are typically owned and managed by a Public Housing Authority. These properties tend to be much older, as no new public housing has been built in many years. Since the Federal budget has historically (and notoriously) underfunded public housing renovations for decades, these properties tend to have higher vacancies due to uninhabitable units or liveable units that are in poor condition. In addition, since all public housing properties offer rent subsidies, low-income residents only pay rent based on their incomes. For that reason, these properties tend to have longer waiting lists. Check our public housing waiting list data for more information. Since Townsend Park Homes participates in the Public Housing program and has a property based subsidy, if you have a Section 8 voucher, you would have to give up your voucher to move in.
