As we near the end of the week, Affordable Housing Online has the latest openings covered, with eight more updates for Section 8, Public Housing, Project-Based Voucher waiting lists!

The areas included today have slightly expanded since yesterday's update. Today's alert is for low-income rental housing in western, midwestern, and southeastern parts of the country.

Waiting Lists Opening July 18

These waiting lists open today after being closed for application submissions for a period of time. Most of these openings are only for a limited time, so don't delay if an opportunity is right for you.

Lakewood, Colorado Section 8 Voucher Waiting List

To start it off, Metro West Housing Solutions (MHS) will open its Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list from July 18, 2024, at 9:00 AM, until July 31, 2024, at 4:00 PM MT. This marks the first reopening since July 2023.

The selection process involves a random lottery and a preferences-based order, though specific preferences have yet to be confirmed. Applicants must submit their applications online during the open period.

This is the only opening today, and there is another waiting list already open that closes today. Read below for more housing opportunities.


Waiting Lists Closing July 18

These waiting lists opened on a previous day and are scheduled to close today. Even though a number of applications have already been submitted, it is still possible to qualify for these waiting lists.

Richmond, California Project-Based Voucher Waiting Lists

The Housing Authority of the County of Contra Costa (HACCC) is accepting applications for Family and Senior Section 8 Project-Based Vouchers across multiple properties until July 18, 2024, at 4:00 PM PT.

Due to technical issues with three wait lists, the HACCC extended the application deadline to today. Preferences are yet to be confirmed, and the selection process details are currently unknown. Applications are to be submitted online.

Family properties include Alvarado Gardens, the Terraces Family Apartments, and more.

Today, there are a number of new waiting lists discovered for low-income apartments that open soon. Read below for the latest housing options in the country.


Waiting Lists Announced July 18

These waiting lists were just discovered by our housing experts, and are currently open or will open soon. Make sure you get everything you need to know to apply during the opening period.

Chicago Heights, Illinois Veteran Project-Based Voucher Waiting List

The Housing Authority of Cook County (HACC) has announced the opening of waiting lists for two properties on different days.

For veterans, Section 8 Project-Based Voucher applications for Otto Square Veterans Housing Apartments will be accepted from July 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM, until July 25, 2024, at 4:00 PM CT. According to the HACC "At this time, only applications submitted by veterans will be added to the wait list." Applications must be completed online.

Homewood, Illinois Senior Project-Based Voucher Waiting List

Additionally, HACC will open the Senior Section 8 Project-Based Voucher waiting list for Freedom Village from July 29, 2024, at 10:00 AM, until August 1, 2024, at 4:00 PM CT.

Freedom Village offers 1 and 2-bedroom units for seniors aged 62 and above.

Preferences are given to applicants on HACC’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program wait list. Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by random lottery based on preferences, with 150 spots for 1-bedroom units and 75 for 2-bedroom units. Applications are to be submitted online.

Prineville, Oregon Project-Based Voucher Waiting List

Housing Works will accept Section 8 Project Based Voucher waiting list applications for Barned Butte Vista Apartments from July 22, 2024, at 8:00 AM, until July 26, 2024, at 5:00 PM PT.

Barned Butte Vista Apartments, located in Prineville, OR, offers 2 and 3-bedroom units.

The waiting list has multiple preferences, and selected applicants will be placed on the list by a random lottery, weighed by the order of preferences. To apply, print the paper application and either drop it off in person at the Housing Works building, fax it, or email it to the Housing Works contact.

Cleveland, Tennessee Low-Income Apartment Waiting Lists

Lastly, the Cleveland Housing Authority (CHA) will open two waiting lists for low-income apartments on different days. On the first day, CHA will open the Project Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) waiting list for 3-Bedroom apartments on July 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET, until 25 applications are received.

Additionally, CHA will accept Public Housing waiting list applications for Efficiency and 1-Bedroom apartments starting July 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET, until 50 applications are received.

Preferences for both lists have not been confirmed, and the selection process details are currently unknown. Applications must be submitted online during the specified periods.
