The Kansas City Kansas Housing Authority (KCKHA) last accepted Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list applications from August 30, 2023, until September 1, 2023. There is no notice when this waiting list will reopen.

To apply while the waitlist was open, applicants were required to complete the online application.

This waiting list had the following preferences:

  • Foster Youth to Independence (FYI)
    • Referred by a service provider to serve youth under the age of 25 with a history of child welfare involvement.
  • Working Families
    • Families where the head, spouse or sole member is employed. However, an applicant shall be given the benefit of the working family preference if the head and spouse, or sole member is age 62 or older, or is a person with disabilities.
  • Local Residency
    • A Resident of Kansas City, Kansas with a current valid I.D., current utility bill, or current lease.
  • Homeless
    • certification from a public or private facility that provides shelter or from the local police department or social service provider.
  • Victim of Domestic Violence
    • Police/Court reports, Protection Order, or social service agency.
  • Military
    • Veterans or Surviving spouses of Veterans and Active Personnel with a DD214 and or honorable discharge.

2000 selected applicants were placed on the waiting list by random lottery, by order of preferences.
